I really chose a crazy title today. How to never lose with a website or blog.
Aristotle once said “Man by nature desire knowledge”.
To understand, this is part of nature of a man. We want to understand something. Notice he never said “man by nature desire information”.
There’s difference in both of them.
Knowledge = applied information + experience.
In my blog I’ve given you complete system from start to finish. The information that I shared with you is my knowledge but not yours unless you start working towards it.
It took me
13 months to understand conversion and blogging
3-5 months to learn and implement SEO & get traffic.
3-5 months to learn article marketing & get traffic.
6-8 months in learning PPC.
6 months in web 2.0 & get traffic.
12-13 month in email marketing
I tackled all my problems one by one. I didn’t try to do all the things in one go. That’s a recipe for disaster.
There are things I never tried (am just bad) in learning.
Things like…
using ebay.
copywriting (I am just so-so in this field).

There’s No Cape
After getting into business and learning how to sell to people. This is the most important lesson I learned the hard way.
People Buy For Their Own Reasons, Not yours.
Customer don’t care, what you are selling, why you are selling as long as their needs are met.
This truism in the marketing/selling is not to be under-estimated. The image below captures the sentiments just right.

I almost stopped myself from writing this…
“You suck, you got no business telling others about it if you, yourself can’t do it.“
Yup, that’s what I was saying to myself just half an hour ago.
Just 1/2 hr ago, I decided I’ll write this email and update my blog since I decided to be more active on my site.
I opened my email processor….
Blink..
Blink..
Blink..
WTF…????
I kept staring at my screen, wonderind what the hell happened to me?
I realized I was hit by most people’s nightmare.
Writing block…
WHOA…
Now for a guy who shouts at the top of building, that there’s no such thing as writing block.
It’s freaking embarrassing.
Now the negative side in me was cursing me, my skills and what people will think if they find out..
Positive side kept telling me to calm down.
Now I got a good excuse for myself not to be able to do this…
I got ADHD. I found out couple of years ago.
Do you know, there’s no system in indian Schooling system to recoganize ADD/ADHD. Often people don’t
realize this. No wonder I didn’t do well in school Until I figured out how brain works and stuff…
Now I am disctracting from the main issue here…
I kicked by chair and then just walked down my building, took few deep breathes and asked myself this question.
“Varun, what’s your advice that you are not following yourself right now?”
JUST WRITE DAMN IT…
Yes, that’s what I am supposed to do. Just write.
I came back, sat down and started writing.
And now you are recieving this email which might end up as a blog post too. Why? Because I am sharing this idea of gettting rid of your mental blocks.
“NOTHINGS MOVES IN LIFE UNTIL YOU GIVE A PUSH”.
That’s what I learned early in life. Being a kid with ADD I always had to work extra hard and then some more to get So-So (below average) grades.
That’s true for life.
That’s true for writing blocks.
That’s true for marketing your business.
That’s also true for success in your life.
If you aren’t succeeding, ask yourself this…
“When did you stopped pushing and Quit because things didn’t seem to be working for you?”
Napoleon Hill talked about this in his book “Think and Grow rich”. He talks about “Stopping 2 feet from the gold”.
How many times have you stopped 2 feet from the gold?
When I realized this, I decided, to not stop unless I achieve the success I am looking for…

Appologies and My 2 golden Rules
First off, my apologies for how infrequently I have sent emails about how to expand your online business, get more traffic and make some serious dough.
Secondly, let me give you the reason behind all this. I’ve been writing to you after a long time and there is a reason behind this. You see, about 8 months ago I shifted my focus on building my business offline (after succeeding online).
I’ve been consulting business locally and started working on my dream project (YAY me).
Anyways, one of the business owner I was working with, just started expanding his business abroad. Now this guys is already in Europe & Asia, now he’s aiming for US.
Now I know you are wondering why the heck I am talking about some random guy expanding his business?
What’s it got to do with you?
If you are bit careful, then you can realize that the time period I am talking about is all about bad economy. This guy is expanding while everyone else is bitching n whining about bad economy.
I am telling you this, because I want you to differentiate between all the nay-sayers and winners.
He’s a savvy guy, he understood that if you are going to succeed, you better be immune to all the what losers says and think.
Focus on success to succeed. Let the Losers cry about falling sky.
Though I’ve been missing from my own site, but I’ve been keeping tab on what’s going on all around. The things I see boggles my mind.
You know the drill…
Launches – I lost track of how many relaunches of the relaunch of the launch was happening. There has been never so much of garbage floating around on the number of launches.
Talk about prices tags and offers… Just Buy my shit and you are covered with my special ultra platinum honest to goodness 100 year refund offer with a matching price tags. That’s all you gotta do folks… just buy it and then even your grandson return it for a refund.
Let’s not forget their affiliates. Do these guys even have imagination? Every one of them copying and pasting same emails, same reviews, same bonus offers… sheesh… talk about lazy.
Now I seriously pity the guys who are starting now (or just started recently). I mean, you don’t have to put much efforts to get distracted by these launches. And every product, every offer look better than the other ones.
I remember when I started in 2004, the only distraction was myself. Even then it took me 13 freaking months from losing money to successfully get into profitable figures.
Do you remember my story? My first ever 5 months netted me $21.50.
Utter failure… I jumped to $200 a day 8 months later.
but today with all the distractions, you’d be damn lucky to get my kind of results (that include my failure too).
The difference is all about me focusing on getting good results.
FOCUS. That’s the foundation of this game.
Now I know, in between all these launches few are good ones…
for example Any stuff by Eben pagan is diamond.
Any stuff by Rich Schefren is Diamond.
But Their stuff will give you better results if you have experience.
Though their sales letter will not tell you that…
Rest of the other guys?
No website, no list, no traffic, no knowledge of html, no knowledge of marketing etc etc…. WTF are those people claiming these days?
Lots of them dropped their quality of material they are publishing. And I am hesitating in dropping their names cuz I personally know them & friends with (though I don’t stop bashing them on their faces).
I am backtracking again… Like I talked about focus. You should be focusing on getting results. Spend time daily working on your business.
Think How you can improve your quality of site, content, product, or services.
Remember my 2 Golden Rules - & Trust me I don’t have that many.
1. Traffic. = Content + 3 X Promotion
2. Super Success. = Content + Traffic + Conversion
If you want to get traffic. Improve your promotional efforts.
If you want to improve results, improve your conversion.
Only 2 Rules… Print it Out and paste it in front of your PC.
Remember – In Business, nothing moves until customer buys.

A fast warning on latest wordpress update
If you are thinking of updating your wordpress blog, then I suggest you to wait for a while. I recently updated my blogs with wordpress 2.6 and encountered one problem after another. I tried everything these guys suggested without any results.
2 of My main problems were
1. white screen after login – I can’t login to my dashboard.
2. Permalink structure effected: one of my blogs permalink structure is effected badly. I am getting 404 error for articles, archives, pages.
My only solution so far was to revert back to 2,5.1. My suggestion is to wait for a while and then upgrade.

Recently when I was looking for few scripts to implement on my websites, I got around to Michael’s website. On his blog he shares quite a few script codes for you to implement. Scripts like OTO (One time offer), Overlay Windows and images, content rotation and much more.
I bet you can think of few implementations of the scripts I discussed above.

30 Minute Backlink Review
A little birdie told me about this new product. Frankly I try not to notice too many products in online marketing. But the name “30 minute backlink” was too much tempting. Anyway I am going to keep this review short as I don’t have much to say about this.
First important thing: Does this work?
It does.
To me, its surprising most people in Online marketing doesn’t know about this. I mean if you are a software developer then you know about this technique. Heck if you are a black hat seo, then you know about this (well BH SEO can take any technique and make it black hat).
I don’t want to give away her secret. But What I wonder if what are the chances of a normal person (not a software developer) to make this method work? Very low. The only way you have to implement this technique is by hiring a programmer. It’s going to take more time than 30 minutes to hire and get a programmer.
And moreover, there are other questions about these links… Will they be on high PR pages? Because from what I know most of the links won’t be.
Its going to be hard work. Am I going to promote this product? ummmm. NO. Damn I had to think twice.
How I started Making sense of conversion maths?
Ed’s response on my blog post “Zero – 150 Unique visitors in 8 days” got me thinking. So I am going to cover this very important topic. Its called conversion maths. Or Rather
Conversion Maths : 80 Unique visitors = $3 Income or 80 Unique Visitors = $70 Income Which you’d chose?
Before I start off this article, let me confess, I am not one of those fanatic testers. In fact I pretty much hate when I have to do the numbers and figure out if I am making money or losing. But this is a fact you have to deal with if you want to do marketing and run a business. So here’s complete background on how I got started…
I wasn’t a Traffic Expert back then…
If you have been subscribed to my list then you know my story. During my first 13 months as a failure in marketing… I started blogging and I wasn’t very good at generating traffic. On one of my main blog I was getting 80–100 uniques a day after continuously blogging for 3–4 months (that’s how much I used to suck).
When you don’t get traffic, you only have one option to turn to… Become good at converting people into clicks (Using google adsense). I think I applied every click tricks for adsense I could find… Some techniques were even pretty objectionable too.
Like the one here called Adsense beautifier. This is an example of a wordpress plugin. Of course this thing can get High CTR’s and in those good ol`days Google used to pay pretty decent money with ever click.
Though I am not using these techniques (as you can increase CTR with bit more creativeness). For example creativity with adsense. Now I don’t want to make this post another improve adsense ctr. So lets get on with story.
In one of those lucky days I sold a product and got a commission of $70. Now this kind of commission outside Internet marketing is pretty un-heard of (at least for a guy like me). So I was curious, surprised and really happy, but I didn’t do anything with the info. Later next week, I sold another of those product and this time I started wondering…
What the hell I am selling exactly for $70 commission?
Now I dug into my affiliate stats and started comparing the prices and their commission structure. I dug into my own stats to tried to understand few things like..
- Where people are coming from.
- What kind of mindset these people into before they came at my blog?
- Does that mindset change after reading my blog post (or pre-sell)?
- Which of my posts were pre-selling these costly products?
- Which keywords people are using to land up on my blog?
- Does these keyword have anything to do with decision making on the product?
- If I write this new post, will it help sell the product more?
Now as you can see, this was heavy duty work for lazy me. It took me like couple of weeks to gather that much data with small visitors. Remember, I didn’t knew about the list building concept back then…
Now after I got my data, I started working on …
- How to get more people into same mindset as when people were buying?
- Can I add something to get additional traffic to my specific blog page?
- Can I add something more to my blog post to increase conversion?
So armed with all these question and answers I started making changes to my layout structure. On how am I was writing my articles and pre-selling products.
Results : Are you interested?
After another 2 weeks I was able to sell 1 of those products in 2 days (or rather 180–200 unique visitors). now this was something good. Why ? because Before I was making $3 a day with adsense and odd change with affiliate products. Now I am selling a product at least 3 times in a week and making around $210/Week.
Now if you know the stats for affiliates, 90% of affiliates are not making $200 per month. Well Finally I was able to break that barrier.
Later on As I kept adding more post, information and becoming better at writing copy and converting, I was able to convert higher and make around $65– $70 per day just by selling affiliate products.
My lessons learned from this experience were
- If you know your basic numbers you can make more money
- Conversion Maths doesn’t have to be complicated. If doing A gets you more money, you just do that.
- Testing isn’t complicated (Hang on I’ll show you how too)
How to do basic testing…
Now there are tons of softwares and stuff out there helping you do basic testing. Of course there are also complicated formulas and terms floating (Multivirate testing) around too. Personally I do not worry about these things as much…
I want to find out 3 things first if I am starting out.
- How many unique visitors my pages are getting (in my case, I wanted to find out about that specific pre-sell page)?
- How many products I am selling from that page?
- What kind of offer I should make on my pre-sell page?
This should get you started to implement basic conversion and testing strategies. For example In that blog I am testing my character voice.
Currently this is converting at 17.9 % +– 10%. You might get worried by seeing this much variation but this version is outpulling my original by 300%. So I know for sure what kind of voice I am going to use in this market.
Whew. I almost wrote a 1000 word post this time around… Anyways I’ll add more on how to do strategy and conversion maths topic. So don’t you worry about it. For now… Sayonara.
Zero – 150 Unique Visitors in 8 days.
I’ve been posting on this blog on how article marketing still produce favorable results. If you remember in one of my old post on “Does Article Marketing Work?” It took me 12 days to get around 150 visitors a day. This time around with my new blog it took me just few days.
Why Do you think I am doing a case studies on new websites?
Simple because I want to show my readers that you can get traffic to new websites with basic techniques that I’ve been showing you on this blog all long.
as you can see my traffic touched 134 in 6th day and on 8th it crossed 150. All it took me Daily blog posting and article submitting. Nothing fancy, Nothing too scientific, just plain old vanilla basics.
But if you are sold on to the idea of “The Secret”, All of what I show it to you here can’t help you.
