I am often asked that question. You probably already know about blogging as a very effective tool for search engine optimization. To help you with structuring a traffic pulling blog, I decided to write this article.
Just how do you structure a “traffic generating blog”?
Basically, it consists of 2 simple things. Ability to index content and ability to reach and communicate with audience. If you remember, blogging was initially used by internet marketer as a indexing tool few years ago. Even then most marketer underestimated it’s ability and underused the tool. I wonder if you’ve already began to notice the fact how blogging has gone from just a fad to phenomenon.
1. Setting up your blog
Before you start blogging, you have to set up/install your blog. The easiest way to install blog on your website is by using Fantastico and wordpress combination. Most hosting companies have cpanel and fantastico installed for their customer’s ease. Fantistco will help you install wordpress blog in 5 minutes.
2. Setting up bare bone SEO structure for the blog.
After installation, you have to start with basic setting. Things like Permalink structure, which will define the links generation by the blog. You should also install few good plugins like “All in one SEO”, “google sitemap” plugin.
3. Using indexing tool properly
Indexing is done by pinging different services all over the net. Wordpress uses pingomatic.com to ping multiple services. What these pinging services do is that they let the search engines know of the updated content.
You’ll also find many websites, giving out a list of 60–80 different pinging services. Often you’ll find many blogger’s suggest you to add the list into pinging list of wordpress publishing. If you are dding that, then you should remove the pingomatic option and paste the links manually in it’s place.
Understand there’s 2 kinds of pinging used by wordpress. 1. The main ping when new content is posted. 2. Secondary ping whenever you do any kind of update on your blog (Editing existing post). If possible, you should check out few plugins (like ping optimizer) to avoid too many pinging possibilities. This will help you by not getting banned by ping services.
4. Ability to reach and communicate.
The most underused tool of blogging is it’s ability to communicate with others. People use blogging as indexing tool or ranting tool, but they tend to forget about the communication. Using blog will give you chance to connect with future prospects, readers and customers.
Think of it as tool to bridge gap of communication between you and your readers.
5. Promoting a blog.
If you’ve been blogging for some time, then you must have heard of one of the most popular myth that surrounds blogging is “Good content will bring readers”. Even with indexing tool and a great SEO tool, your blogging activities needs to be promoted to generate good traffic.
Connecting with others, article marketing and all the simple techniques can be used as promotion methods for blogging. Again, talking about promotion is bit out of scope of this article. We’ll discuss promotion in our future articles.
I’ll bet you’ll find it’s easier to promote a blog than a static website or a mini-site.

If you are an article writer who got bored to death by staring the blank screen of your computer then you need to perk up and start reading (and following) the stuff I am going to share in this article. The bane of every article writer is the ideas, they just don’t seem to be as forthcoming as they should. Right?

2. Not sure if your article will be hot enough to get traffic.
Now get ready with pen and pad, you’ll surprise yourself with the ideas you can come up with.
The basis of Traffic getting articles is – People are looking for things to research or buy.
Now if you understand the above line, you’ll have no more writing problems. It’s all about writing stuff that people are looking for. You should be looking towards articles that people think are “hot” and “happening”. And this is exactly you are going to learn.
Now get this, everything that people get interacted with and get interested in will be searched in Google, Yahoo and other search engines. So it’d do well for you to be keep yourself updated on the latest happenings in your niche.
Online Set up -
1. Set up google alerts on the keywords from your niche. www.google.com/alerts . I highly recommend you to create a new account with google to receive alerts.
2. Check Google trends regularly http://www.google.com/trends
3. Use google blog search with your keywords to check what’s new happening in blogosphere.
Offline Set up
You are going to check your offline newspaper/magazines regularly to get ideas on what’s happening.
1. Newspaper.
2. Weekly magazine.
3. Monthly magazines.
This is just preparation about getting ideas for your articles. I’d be surprised (and angry at you) if you can’t even get 1 single idea to start working right now. So what are you waiting for, get cracking…
What Are My Secrets to Writing 10 Plus Articles Per Day?
As a reaction of what I am telling you now your awareness of your own writing skills will increase exponentially. You’ll be able to see how you can also write tons of article and get extra traffic, publicity and sales.
Have you ever noticed, how experienced bloggers or writers can churn out articles after articles without getting out of ideas? My Friend Andrew wrote 40 articles in 2 days as a challenge. I’ve personally wrote 28 articles in 2 days while preparing to launch a new content site.
One of the first thing I want you to do is., Forget about all your worries and concerns, as it shuts down the ability to see read and think. Being a worrywart will effect your writing.
Now as you feel more relaxed, I want you to focus and write an intention about writing an article. It can be simple intention like this “I am going to write a 500 words article about X Y Z”.
When you are relaxed yet focussed, your brain will work overtime to find answers to your intention. You’ll be surprised to see ideas coming out of nowhere and your fingers starts moving automatically.
One issue that you will have to handle in this phase is “idea overflow”. Now don’t laugh it up, I know you are thinking “Varun I don’t even have a single idea, I don’t have to worry about overflow”.
Like I said, When you follow this process of relaxed and getting focussed with intention, Ideas will flow. Of course, it’ll start slow but as you keep writing, ideas will burst out of your system. So you have to learn handling overflow. Let the ideas come and write them down in different paragraph as a symbol for the idea.
For example, my main idea for this article was “relax, intent, Focussed, flow”. 4 words that communicated all my thoughts regarding this matter.

How to get Real World Online Success
This is no bullshit online business success article. There will be no motivational tips, No complicated 30 steps and no Hype. In fact, The things I am going to suggest will out shine any $1000 Traffic building, Content creating, Video marketing, Web 2.0 or any other SEO plans out there. Your fingers might bleed and you might get addicted to coffee. And that’s the good thing. 
Listen the plan is based on the simple idea – “Sell the Damn thing to People who want it”. There’s no better marketing advice anyone can give you. Now let’s break down this advice into 2 simple components.
1. Sell the Damn thing – Now this is your product I am talking about. Without a good product, you are dead. The best thing is if the product happens to be yours. 2nd Best is when you are promoting someone else’s product.
Well, Here’s a wake up call. We ain’t selling anyone’s product till we sell ours.
2. To People who Wants it – This is all about traffic building and converting. The idea is simple “Sell to the people who wants it”. Now I don’t care if I can sell ice to eskimos, I won’t do it. Why? because too much efforts required. Too many hoops to jump. We want to sell something that people wants.
Like water in hot desert to thirty traveler. Simple enough.
So how do we do this?
1. Create a product – DUH! If you don’t understand the simple idea that your products gives you better maneuverability than affiliate products, then you don’t belong to the crowd. We don’t want 20 DVD, 40 CD with 400 pages in 4 Different binders as a product (well I’ll be damned happy if you can get that, but that’s another story).
You need a very simple product. 8–10 pages of “Special Report” will do it enough. You can charge it at 10 -20 dollars a piece. You can finish this kind of product in few hours. Write a sales letter for it in 30 minutes and start selling by tomorrow. That’s the beauty of it.
So that means another “50 ab exercises” book won’t do. Instead, “My Secret Diet plan and Ab workout that gave me 6 packs in 6 weeks” will work like gangbusters. Getty?
Remember WE sell a product that people already wants. We don’t want to create a market for it.
2. Sell the damn thing – err… How to get traffic – Now this is where you are going to spend all your coffee and bleed from fingers. So far everything was easy.
1. Create a blog, Write a post everyday. If you market is competitive, then post 2–3 times a day.
2. Write an article and submit to ezinearticles everyday. Keep doing this, until you start selling 2–5 copies of you products everyday. Heck if possible, don’t ever stop doing this.
3. Find other related blogs and leave comments. Do this everyday.
Doing the above will give you more than enough link juice and SEO power to get FREE traffic.
Now There are 2 important thing to remember.
1. When you get these people, try to get them opt in to your list.
2. Get your customers opted-in automatically(this needs coding knowledge, Digital guard creates link that can do this automatically).
3. Improve the conversion – Now I know, none of us are Gary Halbert or John Carlton. So our sales letter are going to suck, but don’t worry, that’s why we have google web optimizer. Test your sales letter, test your offer. Try to achieve 1% conversion. 1 buyer for every 100 visitor.
When you achieve 1% goal, Start working towards 2%. If You can sell at 2%, you are far better than 98% of internet marketers out there.
4. Create more expensive products – The idea is to do rinse repeat of the above process, This time add few more expensive products. Your goal is to sell at least $500 worth of product package.
5. Start Your own Affiliate program – As you start selling more products. Start Your own affiliate programs. Let people sell your product. There’s nothing like getting FREE traffic from affiliates.
Now it doesn’t work, if you don’t start working on Step 1 Right now. In fact I am ordering you to sit down and type a 10 page report on something that people already wants. By Tomorrow you should have it ready. By Tomorrow evening, You should also have it’s sales letter & Blog ready. You don’t need a big ass 40 pages sales letter.
If you don’t start right now, you never will.
Conclusion ?
Nope, none. After all this plan is so darn effective, you don’t even need to do last 3 steps. Adding any more will just muddy up the masterpiece.
A different take on Building internet business part time
One of the most common mistake every new i-entrepreneur does is not take their business seriously. They are working part time with part time mentality. That’s where 95% of new internet marketer goes wrong.
You have to take it seriously and think like it’s your own business that you are working towards. People have this attitude from their teenage years where Part time = pocket money = few beers and pizza with friends. And this attitude cross over when you start building your own business online.
Think of it like this. You are baking a cake. It takes 7 ingredients to bake a cake. But what if you miss 3 of the ingredients. Will the outcome be still a cake? Heck even if you miss 1 ingredient, the outcome will not be a cake.
For internet business, you need
1. Ingredients – Raw Materials to work with – i.e. Website, domain name, hosting etc.
2. Time limit – Working hours – You have to spend time daily on your business.
3. Experience – nobody can make a decent enough cake with their first try– It comes with experience. You’ll have to get improve your skills with writing, seo, building traffic. It’ll take some time.
If you understand this simple aspect of building business, you’ll go further than most people. One of the studies about affiliate marketers suggested that 90% of them do not make more than $200 a month. To me, Which is not surprising. Taking into the account of their hard work, I am not surprised at all.
Whenever I think of new marketers, I remember someone who in this first month as affiliate marketer made $800. He worked harder than anyone, he worked longer hours than anyone, he focused on his objective better. He jumped into 10% of affiliate marketer in his first month. Is it surprising? No.
Follow this template to write article in 10 minutes
In this article, I am going to give you one of my favorite article template that anyone can use and write articles in 10 minutes.
I call this template “hi buddy”. Why? because when I am using this template, I am imagining that I am talking to my best friend about the product/website.
Whenever you get stuck writing an article, Imagine you are calling your best friend.
Lead – in Paragraph -And start a conversation like this…
“hey buddy, You know, I was looking for X and came across this website.” This is your lead in paragraph or introduction for the article. You don’t need anything serious or special opening for the articles.
In this section you are going to talk about WHY? Why you were looking at X/Y/Z product or website. For example, if you are looking for a product on article writing, you’ll say something like this…
“Hey buddy, you know, I was having problems with writers block and For the life of me, I couldn’t just get anything to write. So I ended up doing search on landed on this great website, where the author suggests I can write articles in 10 minutes. Would you believe that?”
Be a skeptic – Next paragraph, you can act like a skeptic and write like you didn’t believe a word what the author suggested. Now if you want an example, it’ll go something like this…
“Sheesh, I don’t believe I can write an article in 10 minutes. How I am going to get ideas for the article? What about the research? What kind of article style I’d use? Heck I type at 20 words per minute. Do you really think I can think, research and finish an article in 10 minutes?”
Give a Reason – In this section I want you to give reason why you think X works. Now I know with my own example, I created a wall too high to climb, So I’ll give you another example.
“But you know for some reason I want to believe him. According to him, using a template can cut down your time to think and write. Moreover it forces and creates a habit which you can utilize to write articles fast. In fact according to the author, Your brain get accelerated when you put some kind of problem in front of it and it tries to give many possible solutions”
Support Your Reason – Now All you have to do is support your reason. If I have to support my above reason, then Here’s how I’d do this.
“Don’t believe me? here’s a simple exercise for you. I want to think of words starting with letter C. Now do this for next 10 minutes. You’ll notice you’ll be getting the words even after you’ve stopped thinking. Surprised how your brain works?”
Add examples – theories – stories – If you want you can add example, theories, stories to your articles to make them lengthy and interesting. I think I don’t give an example for this, right?
Finish with a simple conclusion – Conclusion is easy to write. All you have to do is talk about what you talked about in the article. So if you have “hi buddy” template, you can easily write an article in 10 minutes with proper lead in paragraphs, examples and stories to make it interesting read. I just finished writing a 560 words article with the same template.
Niche Marketing – Biggest Internet Marketing myth.
How many times you’ve read in articles, ebooks or listened to some video and some marketer is saying “All you need is to find a niche and that’s all it takes to get rich on internet”.
All you need is a niche.
This has been one of my pet peeves about internet marketers approach. Especially after frank kern/ed dale’s underachiever method, everyone was trying to make their dogs and parrots sings.
The problem with this advice is that Internet does give you with an ability to target thousands of niches. But to try and find out if they are profitable will take consume lots of your time and money. And the worse part is, you don’t know how niche, your niche should be to be profitable?.
I know the idea of having 15 websites making $300–$500 per month sounds lucrative and effortless (sheesh how much marketing it needs to do to get that much money, I bet not much). It’s not.
And trust me, if you think handling 15–20 niche markets is easy? You have no idea.
Gary Halbert told me a better approach.
As you know Late gary halbert has way with words (Read his newsletter archive, it’s goldmine better than few of those $997 products put together). He talked about “Hungry market”. He said, “If I have a burger store, I am not going to try for the biggest, baddest, tastiest burger. No sir, I am going to want a bunch of hungry people who just wants a burger RIGHT NOW”.
In fact this approach is one that’ll make you most money. Find a herd of people who are hungry and put your burger mobile in front of them and charge money. There’s never been a better money making forumla told.
Find something that people want and charge for it.
Competition worry – Now in this situation, quite a few smart marketer will be using same approach (same ones who told you to find obscure niche for yourself). There’ll be competition. And I say “YAY” to that… With competition, you’ll learn faster. Either you’ll shape up or ship out. Simple.
I used to be worry myself sick with the competition. It never helped me. I could never market myself with more gusto. Worrying about it made me more worried. When I said, hell to all competitors and challenged them head on… I started making money… and fast too.
I always believed in “Push people in the water, they learn to swim faster” approach.
So What to do now?
Make a list of things you know and talk about to people. Includes your habits and other stuff. Chose 2–3 different topics and see how people are making money in those markets. (Check monthly magazines, websites with products etc). Jump into the water and learn to swim.
Oh… Don’t give up. Trust me, each failure will bring you so closer to your goal.
How to activate your writer’s muse?
If you are planning to build a business on internet, then you are soon going to realize, you have to write no matter what. You might have to write an article or may be a blog post or may be create a product (ebook) or special report. In any case you are going to write it out.
Writing is one of the essential skill that you have to learn no matter what. Even more important than copywriting, technical computer stuff or HTML. And in the process of writing, you are going to face the biggest horror any writer can face.
…Writer’s block.
So today I am going to share only One idea, only one way to help you out with your writer’s block.
How to activate your writer’s muse?
When you are writing an article or a blog post or even a report. All it comes down to is about Idea. If you have no idea what you are going to write, you’ll be facing blank screen.
Muse – The Muses in Greek mythology, poetry, and literature are the goddesses or spirits who inspire the creation of literature and the arts. They were considered the source of the knowledge, related orally for centuries in the ancient culture, that was contained in poetic lyrics and myths.
How to inspire the creation ?
Fortunately I think of myself as an “idea-man”. So I never tend to get out of ideas to consider or write about. I never realized this until one of my friend told me about it. He told me “I never understood how you get these ideas or answers to questions you never faced. What’s so different about the way we think?”.
I realized after meditating lot on this… I am ‘idea-man’ because I am ‘idea-gatherer’. If you want to become a good writer, you have to gather ideas forming all around you.
You have no idea how fascinating your brain is. When you give right ingredients it spits out right product. When you give ideas to your brains, it’ll give you tons of ideas on your own.
Try this for an exercise – For next 15 minutes, I want you to write words that start with C. Color, carrot…etc etc… Do not stop writing until time elapses. You’ll notice that you keep getting words that starts with C even after you’ve stopped thinking about it. They keep jumping in your brain and you just can’t help it.
So when you want right answers… ask the right questions to your brain.
Create an Idea – journal. I use “Keynote” software to keep tab on ideas on different things. If I am reading on email marketing, I get an idea or find something interesting that someone pointed out… it immediately goes under my keynote heading “email marketing”.
Helpful Tip : If you want to improve your writing… Start writing the moment you get an idea. Aim to become an Idea-man yourself. There’s no better way to do it other than practice.
My simple challenge – Build your internet business in 30 minutes a day
My Challenge – Build your internet business by working 30 minutes a day
One of the most common gripe I heard about building business is that “It takes lot of work”. Or “we can’t devote lots of time promoting”.
So I ended up thinking up of this challenge. I Challenge you to spend 30 minutes per day for next 30–60 days.
Here’s what you have to do…
1. Create a blog for your website (it helps if you have existing blog).
2. Write a simple blog post every day ( do not spend more than 10 minutes per day writing). This will help you with your writing skills as well as focussing skills.
3. Chose a method of promotion that you can do easily. For someone like me, I’d chose article marketing. Write an article and submit to other sites. Or May be commenting on other people’s blog. Real good comments. The choice is very simple. Chose something that you can finish in 20 minutes.
4. Do it daily for next 30–60 days.
My Prediction?
If you do this daily for next 30 days, first thing you’ll see the increase in the number of visitors per day.
Second thing you’ll see is few sales (if you are good with maths and keep track on conversion, then you might be able to find few tricks to increase sales).
Third thing you’ll see is increase ranking in serps like google n yahoo.
If you keep up for total of 60 days. You’ll be able to see constant income from your website. And the momentum will be in your favor. Now all you have to do is put effort to ride this momentum and in next 10–12 months. You’ll have a solid money making website.
