In my earlier post we talked about how Traffic+ copywriting+product= Internet Business Success.

So, we all know that in the core of it all, traffic is the most essential thing to a successful Internet based businesses. Aside from ensuring that you have a great product to sell, and you have good copy well taken care of, it would be time to get to the nitty-gritty of things, generating traffic.

If you check out marketing forums, all you hear is one complain “Getting traffic is HARD”. Well, I leave the whiners and moaners alone. If you want to succeed then you better read on.

So I decided to put together a complete tutorial on getting more traffic. It’s going to be a 30 day challenge. Of course it’s going to be hard work. (On side note, if you are not ready to work hard in business, then you better stop wasting your time.)

What You Need for this Traffic Challenge?

1. Grit, Hard work and Patience.

2. A blog (If you STILL don’t have a blog, shame on you)

3. Onlywire.com account (and access/login to all the social networking Websites)

4. Stumbleupon account.

5. 30 Articles

6. A Keyword Research Tool (Ideally word tracker, get a 1 day subscription with wordtracker)

7. Start this Challenge Tomorrow on sunday Or any Week end (or any day where you have whole day off)

Step 0 : Getting The Boring Job Done First.

First step is to get the boring job done. If you don’t have Onlywire.com account and other social networking sites account. Then create one. It’ll take you about 1/2 hour to do so. Hint: Use same login and password for them.

Step 1 : Keyword Research with Wordtracker

We are going to start with researching your keywords. Fire up wordtracker and start researching on your keywords. I want you to focus on keywords with 3 or more words in it. i.e You’ll not search for weight loss, you’ll look into keywords like “weight loss after pregnancy”. That’s a 4 word keyword.

You have better chances of getting traffic with this keyword than with the other one. You are supposed to gather at least 40-50 keywords. If you think you can’t find that many words then use thesaurus. Find different keyword combinations.

Think like a normal person looking for information about your topic will search on search engines.

Here are 3 part tutorial I wrote for 30 Day Internet Marketing Challenge.

1. Day 3 : Sink or Swim : keyword research Premier

3. Day 3: Mining the Goldmine (Long Tail Keywords)

Step 2: Start writing articles focussed on your long tail keywords as researched in first step

This is the exactly the reason I asked you to start this challenge on Weekend (or off day). You need more time today to write articles. I’d suggest you to write at least 7 articles today. If you can write more articles then more power to you… But 7 is minimum number of articles you should write… I’d prefer if you could write 14…

I’d like you to submit/post 1 article per day for next 30 days.

Pick 3-4 different Keywords that you want to focus. You’ll be writing an author box with these keywords with backlink to your blog in it. As you might have guessed we are going to submit articles with Author bios with link to your website or blog.

Step 3 : Post 1 Articles/Day on your blog.

You have to write 1 post per day on your blogs. There is no workaround on this. Again focus on those keywords while posting.

Step 4 : Submit 1 Article Per Day.

I gave you list of 4 article directories that you can use to post. Google tends to like ezinearticles & searchwarp and yahoo goarticles. So that’s why we are focusing on all the 4 directories.

Now here comes the twist. You are going to re-write your articles and post almost unique content to each of these articles.

Eh, Eh… EHHHH……

I know, I know it’s work… but its more fruitful. That’s your only chance of getting more backlinks & targetting multiple keywords without worrying about duplicate content. If you cannot spend much time, then at least re-write for goarticles and ezinearticles.

step 5 : Use Onlywire to Submit your pages to social networking sites.

Last step in this tutorial is to submit your blog post to social networking sites on daily basis. That’s why You have to use onlywire.com to bookmark your blog posts. It’d help you if you are writing good blog post.

How much time you’ll spend on this?

Lets say you start on weekend Saturday. You spend 1 hr on researching your keywords and then 3 articles per hour. You spend 3 more hours writing 9 articles.

So far you have spent 4 hrs on first day. On sunday you again spend 3 hrs writing 9 articles, you’d end up with 18 articles in 7 hours.

Writing 1 blog post every day (maximum time 20 minutes) , Rewriting your already written articles 4 times (10 minutes per article = 40 minutes). That’s total of 1 hr. Submitting your articles, bookmarking posts etc will take you extra 10 minutes.

So in total you are spending 70 minutes per day. For next 30 days. Plus 5-6 hrs on weekend. Of course as you gain experience you’ll be cutting your time down.

This is hard work, that’s why I called this a challenge. If you follow this very simple plan you’ll have 30 blog post, 120 articles distributed around the net.

Getting traffic is simple. All you need to do is create more entry points for your websites.

Study Other Businesses : Non stop learning curve.

Yesterday I talked about studying and evolving your business to another level. Like I explained you have to be student of marketing as long as you live. So today I am going to give you some ideas on how to study other marketers.

Study very carefully how successful people online operate.

1) Sign up or Join things online for the soul purpose of learning from them. You may not necessarily need the product or services offered, but you are curious about how they do that! This can include newsletters, memberships and other programs.

There have been many times, I bought the product or joined a website only because I wanted to know more about sales process. (Oh Yeah, there are some great marketers beyond internet marketing niche, if you ever found one then there’s good opportunity to learn from them)

2) Study Sales Pages and Copy. How are they designed and set up? Not all of them are effective; concentrate on the ones that are. Start what’s called a “Swipe File” where you keep ideas for sales pages… The structure of sales pages are not copyrighted. Just the content is…

Here are how you should find sales pages.

Try out www.earlytorise.com and check out their ads (in the newsletter)

Find some good copywriters and check out their resume (Portfolio) you’ll find tons of good stuff there…

If an ad generates a response from you… it might be good for swiping it for later.

3) Watch people in forums… the people running the joint. I almost fell of my chair the other day when I saw the moderator of a forum come in post and draw attention to a batch of products without anyone suspecting a thing…

This is just the tip of the iceburg, but you get the idea. Just train yourself to recognize or look out for these things. You should learn not only what people are teaching you to do, but more importantly study what people are doing!

Places like Sitepoint.com or warriorforum.com are great places to start out with. But again like I said earlier, Don’t stick to marketing theme. There are tons of other markets with some great marketers… study them…

And not even the Gurus… If you see someone was successful at something or had an idea that worked, try to discover the why and how.

I also suggest picking up some sales books that can teach you these techniques… not from gurus or the online world.

I suggest Robert Ciadlini’s Influence : Science and Practice. This is great book on understanding others..

Last Day of Your 30 day challenge.

I haven’t given you any new information or task for last 3 days… The challenge is over… right now you should be reaping some rewards… You have all the information you need to last lifetime in Internet Marketing.

Day 28: Teleseminar - Fastest Way To Create a Product

We have covered a few ways to create products (basically reports or ebooks). But if you have to take the time and preparation in mind, then there’s nothing that can beat a teleseminars.

They are great products because

  1. They can be sold themselves a product.
  2. You can sell these teleseminars and printouts even after the event.
  3. You can use them as a lead generation tool or may be additional entry point in your sales process.
  4. You can use them as a back-end product.
  5. You don’t have to create a product all by yourself. Its all done by guest speakers.
  6. They can also be used as sales presentations for higher priced products.

Before you even consider doing your first Teleseminar, be sure you have attended Teleseminars presented by professionals, especially those who provide similar material to what you are considering.

Attend these Teleseminars, read the handouts, purchase the transcripts, and participate in the follow-ups.

After you have attended enough of Teleseminars presented by other presenters that you have an extensive knowledge of the business, you are ready to start putting together your first Teleseminar.

How to Conduct a teleseminar?

Few points to remember before you start creating a teleseminar for your marketing purposes.

  1. They work best for information-based training.
  2. When you send out your pre-seminar package, be sure to include the date, time, phone number, and login code if needed. This will prevent last-minute rushing around and also allow you time to resend the information in case someone contacts you who hasn’t received theirs prior to the start of the Teleseminar.
  3. Since the listeners cannot see the page you are holding, it is important that you number the pages in your handout. This will make it easier for the listeners to follow along and know exactly what topic you are currently covering.
  4. Either reserve a conference room or pick a quiet room so callers won’t be disturbed by background noise from your telephone.
  5. Be ready at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time in case some listeners call in early.
  6. Be sure to have paper, pens, handouts, cheat sheets, teleconference codes, the list of participants, and any other necessary materials by the phone.
  7. Do not use a cordless or mobile phone as these may cause your listeners to hear static on the phone line.
  8. Wear a headset if possible so that your hands will be free to make notes. Because of its tendency to make the speaker sound far away, avoid using a speakerphone.
  9. Turn off call waiting so that your call will not be disturbed by the beeps.
  10. Have a clock in the room for keeping track of the time.
  11. Be sure to check the sound quality of the call at the very start of the call. Ask your callers if they can hear you, and if you are using a headset, be sure the microphone is adjusted for the best sound quality.
  12. If you have fewer than 12 participants, have each person say their name and location in order to build rapport.
  13. Stand up while you talk to make your voice sound more vibrant.
  14. Do not read word-for-word from a script. You want to make your voice sound natural, and very few people can do that when reading from a script.
  15. To avoid reading from a script, use a “cheat sheet,” with a bulleted list of key points you want your listeners to remember. In this way, you will recall what you want to cover without sounding like a robot.
  16. Be sure to reinforce your key points frequently throughout your talk in order to keep your audience on-track. This task is much more difficult on the telephone than in person because there is no face-to-face contact.
    The attention span on a telephone call is much shorter than that experienced in a live presentation.
  17. Repeat any URL’s and email addresses so that your participants can write them down if they choose. This information should also be provided in your pre- and post-seminar packets.
  18. During your presentation, be sure to periodically ask your audience if they have any questions. This will give them an opportunity to participate in the discussion and possibly prevent them from losing interest.
  19. Be sure to manage your time wisely. Your outline should have an estimate of the time that is needed for each section.
  20. If possible don’t stretch your teleseminar more than 60 minutes at a time. If you can’t do that, Schedule next part of teleseminar in advance.

Bum marketing is another fancy name for article marketing. Of course the focus is on long tail keywords. Before I can explain How you can put your article marketing on steroids.. You have to first learn about bum marketing.

Here are the basics of bum marketing (Marketing with articles).

1. You write articles based on Long Tail keywords: Keywords that have 3 or more words in them are basically your long tail keywords. If you focus on these keywords you’ll have less websites to compete with.

2. You direct all the traffic to your affiliate page (Basically a review page for affiliate products you are promoting). You use top article directories like ezinearticles.com or classified ads site like usfreeads.com

3. You bank your commission.

This is your basic Bum marketing method. Of course you can other factors into play like Using classifieds to craigslist to yahoo answers. There are tons of ways you can use to bring traffic.

How Spending 5 Minutes extra in your Bum Marketing can Double your results?

Interesting claim that, isn’t it?

Well, there are many ways you can improve your results. People have written and sold few reports on these techniques. Techniques like using squidoo, or use different classifieds lists or using blogs.

Of course all of this helps in one way or another. Moreover if you consider following a simple plan as this it’s great way to make some money without spending too much.

Well I am not going to talk about all these techniques.

I want to give you some food for thought. Something that you can use to build your marketing with your skills…

Lets say if Writing article takes X amount of time and it produces Y results.

X= Y

What if we add few changes which you can finish in 5 minutes and it has potential to double your results

X+5 = 2y

Now if you spend 5 more minutes, You can literally tripple your results.. Isn’t that right?

X+5+5=3Y

Now of course they are other variables and factors that will be counted. But we are taking it as bigger picture. This is the kind of thing that produces powerful results if you can apply it properly.

Your 5 Precious Minutes

You are going to write an article anyway, so what harm is in spending an extra 5 minutes. Ok ok, I won’t create more suspense.

Here are the steps you can follow on daily basis.

1. Write your articles based on long tail keywords.

2. Now use other long tail keywords based on the article and re-write 40% of article. Now I don’t believe in duplicate content but according to some SEO experts 40% of content changes will take care of all this duplicate content problems.

In this I suggest you to target different keywords based on same article. For example, Once I wrote an article on “how to lose your beer belly”. I found after some researching I can use “How to lose your gut” and other variations like “how to lose tyre around the midsection”.

Now this helped me target 3 different keywords variations with one article. All I needed was to change my keywords and some of the content tone.

How much it took me? Less than 5 minutes.

So think of ways to implement this idea which doesn’t take much time anyways. You are create more articles, targeting more keywords and create more ways to get exposure to your website.

3. Here you can submit these articles and implement the rest of bum marketing method as you wish. I know some people use squidoo or craigslist to add some omph in bum marketing… Implement those steps.

4. Do this on daily basis. In just few minutes per day you can get 3 times the result of your hard work. Isn’t that better?

 In fact if you think of this technique, You can implement something like this in quite a few of the marketing process. That’s why I writing such a big post to explain something as simple as this.

We talked about leverage, this is one of the ways you can get leverage on your existing content. Can you implement in other ways? YES, you are only limited by your own imagination.

Now, What you are doing? Go and put some OMPH in your marketing.

Tag & Ping : Is This the Secret Behind Getting Traffic?

Day 24 Is here… Today, we’ll look at Tag and Ping Secrets.

There is a very good chance you might have heard about this and scratched your head about it. About a year ago, tag and ping was touted as “The Secret” to getting loads of traffic. Now like always, tons of people tried this game of tag and ping without understanding anything about it.

If you think tag and ping is your untold secret key to truck loads of dollars, think again. Why? Because all of these people who thought like you bought into this trend and tagged and pinged the heck out of their blogs. All of them ended up over abusing this simple technology. Exactly same happened with blog and ping when it was made it to local marketing news.

So today, I’ll break lots of myth surrounding this secret and enlighten you. Tag and ping started with the thought of sharing, Yes, its about social bookmarking. What you can do is choose n pick your keywords and then save it under your social bookmarking websites.
It helps with these sites organize and check out which keywords were tagged recently or popular.

So to make it short, the definition of tagging is “The act of tagging a web site or blog with one of the services like technorati, del.iocio.us, flurl etc”.

Now let me explain what exactly is tag and ping. I’ll try to make it easy for you.

For example, if I am writing this post under tags “tag and ping”. I’ll create a tag with “tag and ping” keyword and the social bookmarking sites will know about it’s activity with tag and ping method. Now if you check that particular bookmarking site and click on the tag, you’ll find all the posts and webpages that are saved under that tag.

Now blogs have an inbuilt facility which is called pinging which basically alerts blog search engines about its updating. If you include tagging with this facility you’ll get Tag and ping. This is what it’s called tag and ping.

These posts can be belonged to you or anyone else who have shared the same tags.

The after effect of these techniques is that you can get your blog pages indexed faster. Plus you can create an authority site network just by tagging. More tag that links to your blog page, higher the authority of it will be for search engines. In non geek talk, this basically means lots of links back to your website and good rankings.

Now The question arises how can you utilize the information?

First of all what you can do is use few keywords that you want to target. Now you have to create tags for bookmarking websites. You can target either just a couple of those or may be use all of them. My recommendation is to select only couple of them (social bookmarking sites) and target them.
For example here is code for tagging technorati.

You can do like this for almost any number of social bookmarking sites or keywords. There is no such restrictions on that, but you can always go overboard. So keep that in mind. Don’t tag spam.

Any ways if you think coding is headache then you can use either http://www.keotag.com/tagger.php to create tags for you. This little tool will help you if you don’t have plug-in for tagging.

Or you can use wordpress plug-ins if you use wordpress blog platforms. Wordpress has Ultimate Tag Warrior Plugin: This plugin will help you create tags for your major sites like technorati, icerocket etc. Again this is a must have plugin for your blogs.

Now armed with these tools you can easily create back links whenever you post a new posts. My strategy is to focus on couple of keywords per post and update my blog more often. Normally I don’t like to go after Highly competitive keywords.

Use these tools and strategy to increase traffic. Don’t tag spam otherwise you’ll be just adding to existing problems. I’ll share some ideas in other article on tagging.

Link building 102 : An outrageous concept for blogs?

Link building 102 for your blog sites. How much outrageous it can be? Lets understand the basics of link building for your blogs. Almost every method I’ve discussed so far to build traffic is about building a link profile.

Posting to forums, writing articles, comments every single thing is guiding you along this path without you noticing.

Sure, by now everyone knows about link building but we are still in so much dark that its crazy. In fact some of your so called SEO’s doesn’t know much about it.

If you think about link building as just reciprocal links then you need to update your seo knowledge. Or if you are one of those who think about Incoming links then you need to remember not all links are equal some can actually hurt your chances of free traffic.

There is a reason I called this article as “Link building 102”, because its starts with basics and goes on to advance topics that will make you go “duh”.

The first Basics is : Building High Quality incoming links to your blog or website can almost ensure good search engine rankings. This is the most boring, cumbersome but best rewarding work you can do. Here is a method that almost every SEO expert use.

Build Your Link profile from High Quality pages

Build Your link profile from tons of related websites (not much on link quality).

Use both of the above techniques to ensure a mix of links.

Getting links from important pages can get you good rankings really fast.

How do you ensure High quality?

There are 3 basic ways to make sure about high quality pages. Google PR & How old the website is & the last way is to check how many outgoing links that page have.

Google PR is one way of checking out if the webpage has high PR and can help you get high quality links.

Second way is the older the website the better you are off (you can break this rule sometimes, but not always). There are times when websites can get High PR in relatively low time frame.

Third method is about checking how many out going links this webpage has. Now understand when I am talking about outgoing, then it means you have to count every single link (even when its link to its domain). Because every link will leech off the effect of High PR and quality and distribute it among all the links.

Remember Link value is passed from page to page not from site to site.
Last thing about High quality you need to remember is, make sure your link on that page is permanent.

Is there any hope for reciprocal linking?

The answer is Yes. This form of linking has really formed a backbone in current SEO standards. It’s not going anywhere. The only issue is, it has become a little less effective. So you need more efforts to ensure good rankings using reciprocal links. If you are going to build using reciprocal system then here are few tips.

1. Related websites/blog: Try to find related websites or blogs and exchange links with them.

2. Good Neighborhood: Try to find websites that are not banned or were banned in past. Normally you can’t get penalized by any sort of incoming links from bad neighborhood but if you link to it… you might feel some penalties.

3. More than just Link partner: This is something That I have been teaching to my clients. My advice to them was, don’t just become link partner, become partner in business. If possible give an idea to share articles, free e-books or host contest together.

Remember the Iron Rule of Link building : High Quality Links. And trust me, that link partner page does not fit exact high quality profile.

Promise your link partner an exclusive link from your articles section or other high quality pages from your blogs. They’ll surely oblige with giving you a one in return.

Check Your Link profile:

Make sure you vary your link building profile. If you only have High PR links then it looks quite unnatural. In same way, if your link structure is same for all the incoming links, it might ring a red flag for your sites.

This is the reason I’ve been stressing a lot on using various medias to ensure lots of incoming links in my articles. You have to plan this out from advance.

If you have been following the articles then you know getting started with blogging is not that hard. If you want a few blog then blogspot (owned by google) or wordpress blogs can be pretty good. But if you want some hardcore traffic, then you need to do SEO for your blogs.

If you want to maximize the potential of blogs then you need to follow these steps.

1. Choose the right blogging software: Right now currently there are 3 Hot blogging software platforms that you can find. Blogger, wordpress and moveable types. If you want Big bang for best bucks then wordpress is one thing you should go with.

You need to understand that you’ll have to implement lots of features and plugins that can help you save time while blogging. With wordpress there is Huge userbase of programmers who keep creating new plugins and making life easier for wordpress Bloggers.

2. Research Thy Audience: Now you may be wondering why in the world we need to research our audience to do SEO. Well if you don’t understand your audience you won’t be able to write interesting content and get some free back links.

Plus with so many users having access to Ipods. You might want to consider using podcasting instead of normal blogging.

3. Maximize The power of Your Feeds: When you are creating a blog, RSS feeds will be automatically created for your blog. Now Make sure your feeds are in working condition (readable by RSS aggregators). I have seen so many blogs where feeds are not working.

Here’s how you can maximize the power. You can use Feed burner to provide your feeds and regular update notices to your visitors. These days quite a few online visitors use RSS aggregators to read & follow blogs. Make sure you give your away methods to aggregate your feeds.

4. Permalink structure: Wordpress has a default permalink structure of something like thing myblog.com/?id=23. Did you notice the link structure it doesn’t give away anything about the post title or content. We only get the post Id is 23.

To update you need to change your permalink structure in options. Make sure your permalink structure is something like this myblog.com/date/your-post-title/.

This is optimized for search engines. There are quite few controversies over this kind structure but you don’t need to worry about it.

5. Submit Your Blog to Blog directories: There are number of directories you can use to submit your blog. Some are directories, some acts as blog search engines. Submitting to them will give you a decent boost in link popularity.

Technorati.com, feedster.com, blogwise.com. Oh I found a link for you. Use this to submit your blogs http://www.toprankblog.com/rss-blog-directories/

6. Use Right keywords in Titles and Meta –tags: There are plugins that can help you add keywords to your meta tags for a particular post for your blog. Now this can help you optimize your blog a little bit. So make sure you use them.

Another thing to take notice is that you should be using Keywords in your titles to optimize your blogs for search engines. It does make a difference.

7. Powerful Content: Ahhh, do we really need to talk about content while discussing SEO. Yes, of course, again like I said, you need ways to devise to get free back links from other Bloggers, forums and other places. It’s all about social networking. Did you forget web 2.0? If you did, then read my articles on web 2.0. Good content is back bone for web 2.0.

Well this is small list of things that can get you started in no time. I’d advice you to follow these tips along with my content generation and traffic building tips. With all of these combine you’ll more chances to succeed with blogs. Not forgetting about choosing the right niche and right keywords. Best of luck.

Day 22: Simplifying Your Complicated Sales process

Well, now as we are advancing into some powerful concepts I thought I should simplify sales process for you… Here is your improved sales process after you have started adding more product into entry level.

1 Entry Level Prospect: Prospects come to your website and you put him into basic sales process of sending newsletter (Remember Buy or Die process). Your first job is to convert a prospect into any one of the entry level product consumer.

After the conversion you’ll have easy time pitching more and high cost products to your customers.

2. Entry Level Products : These are the short reports you have created to generate income on front end as well as converting more subscribers into customers. There is a very good chance if your customer didn’t like Product A, she might end up buying product B or C or D.

This way You are bring more customers at the top of your Sales funnel. From here on You’ll start pitching high cost products to your customer list.

3. High End Products: These are your first level of High cost products. You’ll use the basic sales process again to convert low paying customers into High paying ones. The process doesn’t change much. Information, Pitch, Information Pitch combination of selling.

4. Last Level of High End Product : When you have sold your High End products, Your last end of funnel will be smallest (with no of sales and customers) but often they are high profitable end. These are your best customers who’ll buy Costly products from you.

They’ll be with you as long as you don’t screw up majorly. Good products, Trust is one of the way you can build long term customers.

After the End of Funnel, Where To Next?

Now after the End of funnel, You can basically jump on any step of funnel and create more profitable revenue streams for yourself. In few months you should have 5-6 Entry Level Products, couple of High End products and at Least 1 Big product (in tune of $700 - $1000).

Again this is not something very complicated but when you see a Big diagrams with charts and other stuff, you can get confused. If you are following my process of building a sales process then you are better off.

So You should get back to work on

1. Creating your next Entry Level Product

2. Generating multiple streams of Traffic.

3. Communicating with your blog.

4. Building your Affiliate program.

These are the 4 core steps you should be following on regular basis.
