Internet marketing – What are the key points that can make or break your online business career?

With almost everybody jumping onto the Internet marketing bandwagon, it has become highly competitive. If you want to succeed online, then you have to do things differently. In this article, I’ll discuss Market research, keywords research and some basic ideas that’ll help you succeed no matter the economy. The ideas and simple enough and can be done from starting now.

First Key point is – Marketing Research.

Marketing research is going to be the Most important factor that’ll either break your online business or make it. Choosing a Right market is the way to make money online. I don’t like to do things like other marketers and go niche. My criteria to target a market is by checking “If people in the market are buying”. If they are not buying, Its just too much waste of time and effort to research what they’ll buy, how and when.

With my method, you don’t have to do the research about demographics and other things.

Second Key point is – Keyword Research.

One of my SEO friend use to say “You can never get enough keywords”. My thoughts are same on this matter. You can never get enough. I personally use different keyword tools like wordtracker or keyword discovery to gather a large set of keywords.

After that, I divide these keywords into checking how can I use them in any way. When you have a big list of keywords with you, You’ll be able to see how the market is performing. How people are searching for the the stuff in the market.

Third Key point is – Building Momentum and Keep going on.

After you’ve finished with the research, it’s time to put your gear on and get ready to rumble. Now you have to bring traffic to your website. Building traffic is all about momentum. You have to build enough momentum that it bursts and bring you loads of traffic.

As you are building this momentum, you should not cease your traffic building efforts. For next 6 months to 12 months, you should be as aggressive as possible. You have to ride the momentum like a surfer ride the sea wave.

If you just keep these points in mind while building your website, then you’ll do well.

How to prepare yourself before you get into internet marketing?

When I started back in 2004, I spend 6 months gathering research on “how to do internet marketing”. But when I started doing it, I bombed despite all my efforts. So what went wrong?

In starting I believe it to be my arrogant attitude, but today, I just says it was plain ignorance. You cannot learn marketing by doing research. That’s how college professors do and they aren’t marketers.

First thing you have to do is to decide – How to monetize your website?

When it comes to monetizing your website, today you have plenty of ways to monetize. I believe, there are basic 3 ways which are pretty damn solid. Selling your own products, Selling affiliate products and Google’s adsense.

You have to chose one of the way, before you can jump. I am suggesting one way, because this way, you’ll be more focused. Think like a Laser beam, millions of light particles are concentrated on 1 point and it becomes the most destructive light beam ever. Right.

That’s why I want you to focus on 1 way to monetize so that you can increase your earnings. Otherwise, you’ll end up like me getting few dollars in each of my 5-10 different affiliate accounts, adsense accounts and rest of other accounts.

Second thing you have to worry about getting traffic.

How to get traffic? This question has stumped beginners and veterans regularly. How do you? The answer is very simple. Think about building Links to your website. Get as many links as possible, in as many forms as possible. In fact whenever you are doing any kind of promotion, you are getting inwards links.

And the third point is How to sustain the traffic?

First thing you have to remember, you never cease your promotional efforts. That’s pretty stupid to do that. I made a mistake and then again I have to build the traffic from the scratch. Bad Idea that.

To sustain traffic you have to concentrate on turning your readers into action takes (do something on your website, buy your stuff or subscribe to your list etc).

Again, understand, unless you are focused on monetizing one way, you’ll have hard time implementing last piece of puzzle. The moment you’ll do that, you’ll notice the rise in your income.

That’s how you should prepare yourself to build a successful online business.

Imagine, you are at a party and your friend starts introducing you to people.
Now for whatever reason, all of you decided to share business cards with each other. (No, it’s not networking meeting).

Now when you go back home, few days later you starts contacting every single one of them and start pitching your products to them.

Can you guess what are your chances of selling your products to them?

Very Low, unless you are master persuader and salesman.

And this is where all of us go wrong. We treat our website visitors and subscribers the same way. We let them subscribe to our list and then starts sending promotions to them.

Can you make sales doing that? Of course yes, many of the marketers are doing it that way.

Do you ever wonder why some Affiliate marketers fail (and others go ga-ga over their massive checks)?

It took me about 7-8 months in general to figure out how to sell products as an affiliate. And I believe most affiliates do not even spend that much time and quit.

Even those who do not quit early, does not succeed as they should have. This question bears a serious thought and a response.

One of the key component I have found in top and successful affiliates is “Relationship”. They share a very cordial relationship with their subscribers. Or Their relationship is based on trust.

The fact is that they spend time in creating a relationship with their prospective customers. And they get paid handsomely for that effort.

But It takes time, who has it?

Now, now, don’t be rash. I am asking you to spend next 30 day to create a relationship with your subscribers, can’t you just spend next 30 days with it? How much effort does it take?

Oh well, let just say you don’t want to spend that much time, then what to do?

Now this here comes into category to seduction or attraction. You have to understand and treat it like real world. You’ll often meet people who are good at connecting with others in instant. Often these people will have others telling their life stories to them in no time.

You have to understand, “Nobody likes to be sold, but they sure like to buy”. If they are not buying it from you, they are buying it from someone else.

Should you use Hard-sell or Soft sell?

I’ve been brought up in hard selling environment. My business experience comes from that background. And I personally despised it for a long time. It wasn’t until I started using soft selling skills. I realized hard selling created a pressure on me which was ultimately non-existent.

If you do not like using typical sales techniques, then go the soft selling route. Understand at one point, you’ll end up using a mixture of both skills and it’s like a circle of life completing itself.

Creating a Relationship is a soft selling skill.

When you start creating this relationship with your subscribers, chances of them buying from you gets really high. And that’s how I get more than 75% click throughs on my email campaigns (notice I didn’t not talk about emails opened, but click throughs)

Every interaction is a time where you should spend some time thinking about “building a relationship”. One of the good examples of this kind of marketing is “David Deangelo in Double Your Dating“.

Eben (or David his pen name) takes his subscribes to the series of emails where he connects with them in many ways. He tries to understand and give them solution that’s best for them. And he does not do it forcefully. He nudges them into the direction.

And he didn’t chanced upon this method by some universe or ‘law of attraction’ magic. He spent time understanding it.

And this is where You have to spend some time ripping apart every single of your own marketing materials.

Remember, In any sales interaction, your main goal is to build a relationship.

Remember – Leaders Lead, followers follow. You have to show them by doing it.

Don’t publish junk Information.

Do not publish bad information. Internet is already very polluted. This will only be bad for your credibility.

Teach.

Be open to teaching others, be it in classes or via emails or tele-seminars. Be open to teach about your market. Share your knowledge with the world.
