Finally we are going to talk about paid listings. They ARE Important. But before that if you somehow landed up on this page and haven’t read about “Organic traffic“, Then click on this link and read it.
Ok then lets talk about paid listings. This is where most cut throat competitors are. Simply because they are paying for every click they generate. You’ll find some very neat tricks from your competitors.
Anyways, check out the top 5-7 paid listings. Click on it and check out their landing pages.
Now here’s few things you should look out at landing pages.
1. Are they capturing email address?
2. Are they providing good incentive to capture email address?
3. How good is their copy(sales letter or sales pitch) of their landing page?
4. Are they promoting a product directly in the landing page?
5. Are they providing information?
6. How relevant their landing page is to the keywords you have used to get there?
7. What kind of call to action (ie. subscribe, buy now, if you buy, you’ll get this now etc)
8. Is there any kind of branding they are doing (product branding, person branding etc)
Now if they are capturing emails, then subscribe to their product and notice their marketing strategy.
1. Are they selling their own products or affiliate?
2. If it’s an affiliate, find out which product it is?
3. Their Offer (ala Affiliate project X style, Don’t buy Unless…. )
4. If they are selling a product, Buy it if its possible (ebook, audio download etc.
5. What’s their Offer, Upsell or Downsell in the product sales pitch?
Ok these are the few things you should notice. The only thing you can’t check out, how long they have been using paid advertising to get traffic. There is chance that this is their first time and they are implementing it badly… So if its this, then all you need to do is track their website on daily basis to see their paid listings.
If it’s not profitable, they’ll pull it out…
You don’t need to go too deep into their strategy right now. If you have subscribed, then you’ll be receiving their emails while you are building your own website. I’ll share some powerful adword tricks when it’s right time
