Day 17: How to Create More Exposure to Your Website
Well, I hope you understood the basic sales process which I discussed yesterday. It can get complex, so I kept other things out… We’ll add few more elements to that sales process as we go deeper into internet marketing.
Today we are going to create more ways to get traffic to our website. Did you remember the more links we get to our sites, the better results we’ll get? its that simple.
Our main method for today is squidoo. Though google have started to crackdown against squidoo users but we are going to take this as a web 2.0 marketing development for our purposes.
How to Use Squidoo and Promote your website?
Squidoo is a website by one of the famous marketer and author Seth Godin. It’s another example of web 2.0 websites. Again web 2.0 websites are second generation of internet based services – such as social networking sites, wikis, communication tools etc.
In other words Web 2.0 is all about user created content, sharing, collaborating & social networking. Squidoo is great example of these sites. In Squidoo you can create personal pages on topics you want to discuss and they are called Lens.
Lens is just a person’s view on specific topic. Its an easy to build, rss enabled single web page. You can share different kind of media (text, audio, videos) on your lens. Then, when anyone coming to your lens for fast information on the topic, your lens can get him started in right direction.
Let me stress on the phrase “Sharing & collaborating”. If you are just posting articles on your lens you are missing the point.
Why You should Use Squidoo?
Squidoo is indexed constantly by all the major search engines and is good way to build a link to your website. You should use them as one of the strategy to increase authority of your website. A link from authority web page can help your website a lot.
Right now you might also see many marketers creating thinly guised affiliate promotions on lens. Again they are ruining not harnessing the power of social media. Its ironic, in one way they’ll keep repeating “money is in the list” and other hand they are just ignoring quite a big list from Squidoo.
I can remember how most marketer screwed the myspace with lots of fake profiles and too blatant advertisements. This is same happening with Squidoo. Users are now lashing back at people who are doing these kinds of things.
How you should Use Squidoo as marketing tool?
Now anyone can register and put up a squidoo lens for indexing websites. But lets be smart about it and use squidoo as a strategy.
First of all you should have a Squidoo account. The lens can be set up easily at no charge. Then create your profile around the topic you want to discuss on Squidoo. Now choosing the topic and keywords for your lens is very important.
Think of it as a choosing a niche. Take your main keywords and use them in creating your basic Squidoo lens and publish it. Lets say if you use a keyword like “My Squidoo Lens”. Your lens will end up like http://www.squidoo.com/My-Squidoo-lens/
Now all the basic One page Search engine Optimization tips works on Squidoo too. Notice the lens keyword in its url. So Use them properly.
Great Tip : When you are creating your Lens, make sure you sign up for their “Lens of the Day Newsletter”. Its good way of looking at other good lens and get an idea for yourself.
To promote your website and product you need to have at least a newsletter, few articles on your topic and a clever way of getting traffic (which I’ll share with you).
First step is to Fill up your squidoo profile page. Make sure it looks like this profile belongs to some real live human. What I like to do is, add lots of interesting tidbits about myself.
Things like what I do, what I like/don’t like. My favorite sites/topics. Remember You can use basic html to create your bio. Just make something good & readable.
Think of your lens as a social networking tool. You don’t want to lose your first impression.
Something from the Site itself : Here are 6 ways to get traffic.
- Make a lens worth talking about.
- Send it to 5 friends.
- Add it to del.icio.us.
- Blog it, or ask someone else to.
- Favorite it on StumbleUpon.
- Play with your tags.
- Make something worth talking about. (It’s worth saying twice).
Please follow this for your own good. Now in addition to my squidoo lens, I’ll create a content site, a blog and may be my own group on my favorite topic.
Remember your goal is to create as much exposure possible for your content and thus your product.
This should be starting point for your social networking profile. I’ll add more content to make sure you can profit from your networking.
Don’t forget : Don’t forget to write on your blogs. Share good content and generate good relationship with your visitors. I suggest you to use all the tools I discussed in one of my earlier posts “Indispensable tools for Blogging.
I hope you are following all the steps discussed in this challenge. If you are then I can bet, you are getting good traffic and seeing some really mouth watering results
