Day 2: How to choose a Hot, rabid niche – I?

Finding Niche is not something that’s really hard, but what’s hard is to determine if its Hot, Rabid full of buyers who’ll buy whatever you sell or not. There are other ways to decide or research Niche Which I’ll discuss later on…

Maybe you’ve always wanted to create a site dedicated to basketball or perhaps one about video games. But this isn’t the time to be indecisive and think in may be’s. 

In this small article you are going to learn exactly how you should pick your niche. You’ll find out about the thought process that goes with it. 

From my point of view, it should be the MOST important stage of your blog building. You are better off spending some time for this as this is back bone of your niche blogs. 

By the time you are done with this article, you’ll have 10-15 Hot Rabid niche in your hands that you can take over, build and make truck loads of money from. 

Are you ready?

Before you read, here’s a thing you should remember, do whatever you told even though I might not be explaining “Why” in this article. Here goes… 

Step 1: Go to your Local bookstore, Magazine store and buy 8-10 used magazines from last few months. Think of Magazines like cosmopolitan, readers digest, sports digests etc. This is about brainstorming for your niche. 

Note: It’d be better if you find some magazines which are popular in certain sections. Sections like teens, sports, motors (bike, cars), make up & beauty. We are trying to Niche-fy ourselves in these niches.

Step 2:  Check the bookshelves of the racks and take note of topics that has number of copies/books by different authors. i.e. Diet, Fitness, Management etc… 

Step 3: Create a big mug of coffee for yourself. You’ll need it like hell in brainstorming sessions. Your brain fizzles out faster when you are making it work… trust me on this. 

Step 4: Take a notepad and pen and Divide the notepad into sections like below. 

Magazine issue                         | Topic              | Advertisements 

Step 5: Open up any of the magazine. Write down its issue number and month. And now start looking for advertisements in it. Write down Topic of the advertisement in Topic section and Details of Ads in Advertisements section. 

Note: Remember you don’t have to write complete details about ads. Just something like a note which can help you differentiate between many ads on same topic. 

Step 6: Go through all the magazines and write down whatever you find. Follow the same process until you’ve exhausted all the magazines. 

Step 7 a: Now you should have a list of topics from magazines that you’ve found. Keep them in handy in some folder (oh btw did you create a Brainstorming notebook? You’ll write everything and anything that’s related to niches in this notebook). 

Now on to 

Step 7 b: Do this step only if you don’t have big enough list of niche topics & ideas from above method. Now this is very simple… Take first idea from the list generated from step no 7(a) and start writing whatever you think about. 

For example:

Let’s start with Weight loss as root. What’s the first thing that comes to your mind? 

Liposuction, Yoga, Pilates, calisthenics, swimming, cardio, bodybuilding, supplements, diets, detoxing etc etc.. 

Did you notice how I was able to generate 10 more ideas from just one… Now may be you are thinking “cheh, that weight loss keyword is easy”. Ok then lets take some topics that can be hard. 

Lets take Liposuction as root. What’s the first thing that comes to your mind. 

Cosmetic surgery, tummy tuck, botox, abdimoplasty, plastic surgery. Well that’s it for me… but hang on.. we can take cosmetic surgery as our root again and think of more topics like face lift, breast reduction, breast enlargement . 

Now these topics are getting into the markets that’d be really hard for us to penetrate. But our idea is to let our mind go wild and generate as much ideas as it can. 

Well I guess right now you are ready with your list of niches and in our next article we’ll show you how to find out if the niche is any good for you or not?
