Day 3 : Keyword Research Premier - Sink Or Swim Right Now

Like I said in the title, sink or swim will be decided at this step. If you make a mistake here, it’ll be harder to rectify later on. So I highly recommend you to print out this article and read it few times to understand the Advanced Basics of Researching Your Keywords.

Why I am calling it Advanced Basics?

Because you won’t find these tips on your regular free reports or even $39 books. It doesn’t matter if you are starting creating your own product, starting blog, website or may be promoting affiliate programs in the market. This is the MOST IMPORTANT step.

Before you start out researching your keywords list, I recommend you to fish for at least 200 keywords in your market.

Here are few tools that you’d be using for today’s work.

1. Wordtracker - Free, but if you have paid subscription you are golden ;-). Ok this Free tool is little different than their Free trial that they have on their website. In this tool, you’ll get a prediction on how many searches will be done for the keyword in next 24 hrs.

Two tools - Free trial Tool, Free Keyword Predictor Tool (what else you can call it?)

Here’s a quote by Anne Curtis, Customer Service Manager for Wordtracker when she responded to a forum member at Associate Programs Forum.

http://www.wordtracker.com/free-trial.html

This is a sample of our members service. As such it only offers competition results for one engine and doesn’t include adult terms for example. The results that are shown here are from our database and show the number of searches carried out for that keyword over the last 90 days. The number of results in the trial is restricted to 15 results.

http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com

also shows results from our database but these are based on the predict figures. This is an estimate of the the number of searches we expect for that keyword over the next 24 hours.

2. Keyword Discover Tool : Free, another great tool you should be using for your keyword researches. It’ll give you 100 search results, but their paid option is pretty nice too.

I’d use all these 3 tools (wordtracker free trial and predictor tool, keyword discovery) together while doing my keyword research. I am only concerned with quality of my research.

Now You better grab a Big Mug of coffee cause you’ll be spending quite a lot of time on researching.

Ok Here’s first step.

Take a Sheet of paper or open a Word document. Create 3 Columns.

One is your Main Keyword,

Second column is for secondary keywords

Third column is for Helping keywords.

I am going to create a theme for the website. Here’s I define all of them…

1. Main Keywords: Your main idea, You can have more than 1 main keyword, but they should be in the same market. Don’t chose, “Weight loss” and “Make money”. Got it? I did that pretty unsuccessfully, So I know.

2. Secondary Keywords: They are going to be mixture of your normal keywords and low hanging fruits(you can also call them long tail keywords).

For example if you chose Internet marketing as your main theme,

Then your secondary keyword would be Internet marketing for beginners and

Your long tail keyword can be “Internet Marketing for Beginners In India”. Right.

As you can see the difference is very obvious.

3. Helping Keywords : Now they are bit different that the above two. They are not directly related to your main keyword or your second keywords but they are still related in one way or another. For example. If you take our Internet marketing as a main theme then Direct sales can be your helping keyword.

Like I said, its not directly related (though it makes sense to us right?). I’ll explain this in the video I am going to create (I’ll try to get it asap, but I am down with cold and Yes these are not pre-written articles that I have set up)

Now in the resources, I’ll give you a keyword checklist which I provided to my subscribers last year. This is a nifty little checklist for you to keep all the main point in mind. Oh, I’ll be writing another article about mining the goldmine (long tail keywords).

So till then,
