Day 3: Mining the Goldmine (Long Tail Keywords)
Before you start reading this article, I highly recommend you to read
1. Day 3 : Sink or Swim : keyword research Premier
2. Day 3 : Relation with Themed Keywords and Latent Semantic Analysis(LSA)
I tried to make things really easy to understand for you. So that you can understand the difference between the types of keywords you need to research.
Ok then, lets talk about Long tail keywords or Low hanging fruits. (Notice – low hanging fruits can be your helping keyword)
Orignally when you are dividing your keywords, they should be divided into 2 groups depending on their types.
1. Information Keyword.
2. Buying Keywords.
These are terms on the behavior of surfers. When Surfers are either looking for information on topic they are termed as Information keywords. Often they are really easy to recognize i.e Internet marketing. Now if you look at this keyword, you can understand that anyone who types this in search engine is only looking to do some sort of research or gather some information. These are not your ideal prospects for your business.
Now second type are Buying keywords. These are often 3 or more words oriented keywords ie. Home based Internet Marketing tips in Michigan. Now when you see these keywords there is only 2 meanings attached to it.
1. People are looking to some kind of solution based on Michigan (closer to home ??)
2. Some SEO nut tried to optimize this keyword (because it’s easier to impress their clients and they go WOW lol) and it checking his stats…
Now the question is how do you differentiate between the two?
Well, first is you need some experience to go with it. But as you’ll start building, you’ll have easier time spotting a good keyword list.
How to plan the attack on long tail keyword (How to attack the search engines)?
Step1 : Plan on how many visitors you want per day? ie. 1000 per day.
Step 2 : Decide how many articles you are going to write? I’d recommend 200 articles giving you 5 visitors a day (totaly 1000 a day).
Step 3 : Now write those articles with long tail keywords.
I realized this intuitively back in 2 and 1/2 years ago. I was a full time blogger back then. And I noticed I was getting quite a few visitors from google. So While I was looking at the stats, I found out quite a few keyword combinations (ie. How to get rid of tire around your waist or something like that).
Now this may have been one time shot… but I was getting 5-7 unique visitors daily at that time with different combinations of this keyword. Now for a guy who have a traffic starved blog, this was a HUGE thing. So I wrote a few posts on the same theme which handled all these keywords and other combinations.
Result : My Affiliate income started to rise.
Why?
because these are the people who wants some kind of solution and they were ready to pay for it. I mean they typed the 7 word combination to find the solution in google.
Let me give you another example.
examples of strength workout for men. Type this keyword into Google right now… I have top 3 listing for this keyword. I’ll add the pic right now (click on the link to view bigger picture)…
Now unfortunately I don’t have any stats for ezine articles other than it got over 1000 views. But in another article directory where I submitted provided me with some stats. Lemme show you… Now keep in mind, this article directory isn’t as good as Ezinearticle but It still got quite a few referrals from google. It has all time page view of 191 with 164 coming from google itself.
Here’s more trivia about this article.
I wrote this article as a blog post 2 years ago… because I was tracking, I know I was getting good traffic from this one… But my blogspot blog got killed for some reason… I lost this ranking… So my next best move was to publish it on ezine article…
So how many articles like these would you like to have?
