How are you building a link profile to generate traffic?

It’s always surprising for me to see “link building” strategies, often get replaced by other traffic building strategy. Actually to call it “being replaced” is wrong, I should call it “In favor of masses”. Link building is one of the most boring part of SEO. YET, it’s one of the most solid strategy.

I am yet to see any website, which didn’t get increase in traffic after they started building links.

In this blog post, I am trying to revive such an old art and giving you a different view about link building.

Why You should use link building as one of the major strategy?

The answer is simple, It’s boring, yet it works. It has been working since internet started. I personally know a webmaster who does nothing else but build links consistently to get massive traffic. Keyword here being “Consistently”. This guy sold one of his website for $100,000.

I am not dissing any other strategies in this article. I just want you to open your eyes to the power of link building.

What exactly is link building profile?

When I think of building links, I think of incoming links from all over the web. Think of links as an owning a part of the internet. The more incoming links are linking towards your website, the higher your website being spotted. So the things/elements, I tend to include in linking profile are :

Traditional 2 way links
Traditional 1 way links
Links coming from blogs
Coming from articles (I am not including any kind of syndication)
Coming from forums
Coming from web 2.0 properties
Links from social bookmarks
Links coming from videos
links coming from software submission

How can you build a powerful link profile?

Simple, spend some time everyday to get some links. You only need 50–75 links per week to start seeing some results in your rankings. It’s not hard at all.. The only thing I dread about link building is “it’s darn boring”.

It feels like My IQ drops few points every hour when I do this. (Note: You can always outsource this)

What kind of results can you expect?

Again, it’s hard to guess something like this. This is long term strategy. If you are focussing on right keywords, then you’ll start seeing some ups and downs in ranking. It’ll take few months before your rankings/results actually settle down and give you general idea.

If you are generating 50 links per week, In 6 months you have 1200 links to your website (I am still not including syndication services like articles, audio, video, bookmarking etc).

I personally don’t know if you are going to engage in IQ dropping activity (LOL). But I ask you to not underestimate the power of links. I personally few of the guys who spent most of their efforts of link building aggressively and then got into top ranks in few months for a very competitive market.

    I couldn’t agree more, there is nothing more important than Link Building in any SEO strategy, yet most webmasters spend so much of their on the latest fad for generating traffic or way out ideas. You gotta build links get used to it!
